About OSDU

Orlu Senatorial Development Union e.V. Hamburg, Germany(OSDU) began like a tiny seed – acorn that has since become a giant oak tree. Little did the handful of people who pioneered this body know that this brainchild of theirs would grow into this grown Lady the Union has become. It was in the beautiful sweaty summer of the year 2000 that few individuals,who amongst other common bonds they shared,was the very fact that they shared the same ancestorial and geographical setting – coming from the same Orlu senatorial zone of Imo State in Nigeria, decided to strengthen their relationship further by creating a forum that will unite them and also to serve other purposes.

Historically, the first meeting of this body took place at the residence of Chief Marcel Ogbu at number 62 Wandsbecker Chausee, Hamburg in Germany; and this meeting was presided by Chief Jude Ogunnaya. Some of the outcomes of this historical first sitting had to do with the aims and objectives of the body. They agreed that this vehicle will be used to promote unity, foster healthy relationships, and as well encourage a peaceful co-existence amongst members. This is also to be used to render assistance to members in time of need. It was also agreed that the body would create an avenue for social interaction and other engagements through a monthly meeting.

These illustrious sons of Orlu who attended the first meeting were industrious enough to appoint an interim executive to run the affairs of the body. Those appointed and their positions included:Chief Jude Ogunnaya – President, Mr Aloysius Obigwe – Secretary, Mr Donald Okalla – Ast.Secretary, Chief Jerry Ezukam – Treasurer/Financial Secretary, Chief Marcel Ogbu – D.O.S., Mr Charles Nnadi – Ast.D.O.S.,Mazi Maxson Dike- Provost. Meamwhile,the curtain was not drawn on this fateful day without taking into cognizance those pioneers who graced this remarkable event and made this dream a reality. They included:Chief Jude Ogunnaya, Mr Aloysius Obigwe, Chief Jerry Ezukam, Mr Dakoki Simon, Chief Marcel Ogbu, Mr Rufus Okafor, Mr Donald Okalla, Mr Chinedu Ezukam, Mazi Maxson Dike, Mr Nnadi Allen,Ukaegbu Max,Anunike Festus and Mr Uttah Nicolas.

In order to have sanity where rule of law, order, certainty and equity will reign supreme, the first constitution was enacted in the year 2002. Immediately after this, the union witnessed her first election in the same year, 2002. The first President elected was Chief Jude Ogunnaya, the Vice- President was Late Mr Kennedy Mbakwe, the Secretary was Mr Aloysius Obigwe, the Ast. Secretary was Mr Donald Okalla, the D.O.S. was Chief Marcel Ogbu, Mr Chinedu Ezukam was elected to the post of the Ast.D.O.S., the Financial Secretary was Chief Jerry Ezukam, the Treasurer was Mr Rufus Okafor, the Provost was Mazi Maxson Dike while Mr Max Ukaegbu was elected as the Ast Provost.

Having gotten the constitution and the elected officials. The Union in 2003 became a full registered organisation, thereby becoming a constituted legal body, protected and recognised by the law of the Land. It is important to note that the first public occasion carried out by the Union took place in 2001 when the members celebrated a new Yam Festival and launching of the inaugural Almanac of the Union,which was officiated by the traditional ruler of Umuzike, HRH Eze C.C. Mkpado, Duru Anosike iii of Umuzike. Since after the first election, the Union had conducted several other successful elections and they are as follows:
